Hmm I'm too lazy to register, Noah. This was supposed to be a reply to your 'Bush is an Idiot' article.
I think I am . . . not dumb, at least. But I wonder if I could do what Bush has done. You know - give these speeches, etc.
Have you ever wondered what it must be like to be, say, Aerosmith, and have to open those curtains and peek out on maybe 20,000 people who you have to go out in front of in 90 seconds?
But this is 300 million people. I think it would be hard to stand in front of 300,000,000 fellow citizens and the world and be fully 100% articulate at all times.
------------
Most of the time the accusation of Bush's stupidity has it's roots in a study done on the use of language in speeches, public writings by the candidate, etc.
This study was done by the Lovenstein Institute, here I will send you to the site decrying it as a rumour so you can see both sides:
www.snopes.com/inboxer/hoaxes/presiq.htm
One thing to know - the Lovenstein site seems as married to the Democrat Party as Bill O'Reilly & camp (or uh . . . Snopes) are to the Republicans.
Anyway, I seem to remember the Lovenstein Institute in the early nineties in the paper press - they were talking about Clinton as the smartest president ever, which caught my eye back then. I could be wrong on this, maybe it was some other institute.
But ---> could the Lovenstein researchers open that curtain and step out to stand in front of America and with all the bright lights, etc, and give even a shitty speech to us?
I wonder what would be the Lovenstein rating . . . of the Lovenstein speech?
Intelligence seems to be made up of many factors. Memory ability, quickness of thought, ability to notice patterns, level of schooling, tendency towards creative thought, intuition-persuasion-sales, ability to use past experience in thinking towards the future, having faith in knowledge, etc
Maybe it is that W isn't as proficient in a few of these areas. But I say remember the end of the last debate, where Kerry had kicked his ass the whole way. It came down to that line where he was talking about his wife, saying "I guess you could say it was . . . love at first sight!"
In my opinion, with this one line, he put a mega-Judo whammy on the entire Kerry performance, effectively negating any gains from Kerry in all 3 of the debates.
Intuitively.
Anyway, what about political correctness - you know that there are certain things a politician cannot say. What if there were this emergency on the horizon and our government was trying as best as possible to position itself. Now imagine having to make those speeches to all the people who just wanna talk about human rights.
I say we citizens are hindering the governments ability to be public about their real priorities, because we expect them to be politically correct. Can I try putting that another way, to further an understanding?
Let me say that we would never, ever, ever, ever, ever allow W to say what is actually wrong with America today.
But we do expect him to fix it.
How is that for a peachy dilemna to put the guy in. We have set him up for failure. This is our president.
This new fascism we like to talk about so much may just really be a couple of vast and nearly unsolvable problems, all wrapped up in our own sorry and pathetic coat of political correctness.
No. I am starting to see. This isn't George's fault. This is our fault.
This is about energy and the protection of the wealth of our country. This wealth will go to one country or the other.
In one way, I can tell you he was honest. He has told all of us repeatedly that this is a war that will not end in our lifetime. I would say that my evaluation on this is quite complex and results in the same conclusion. My evaluation involved facts about world populations vs energy markets, previous behaviour of humans in history, a certain study of Easter Island, facts about polarity and vacuums and their behaviour in physics, and fairly extreme knowledge of current events.
But you should know I just mow lawns for a living hahhaha
