Hi all, This is, I think, a story worth mentioning. Here is a link to the most recent - though not most throrough - article I've found about it. www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-gay21.htmlThis is part of a larger bill, which is how these things always seem to get passed. And the offensive part says that gay couples would not be allowed to become foster parents. But - more heinous - is that foster children who are currently living in a home with gay parents can be removed. That's right. It's better to rip the children out of a loving home and throw them back into an under-funded, over-populated foster care system than have them exposed to homosexuals. Right now, Florida is the only state to have something similar, in the form of a complete ban on gay couples adopting children. And what do Texas and Florida have in common?... hmmmm... Darius

Astonishing. Homosexuality is being criminalized by the worst criminals in office. That the brothers Bush would actually tear children away from good homes and loving families, out of nothing but hatred for the parents' sexual orientation, throws another monkey wrench into their claims of family values.
Regardless of this naked bigotry, it's obvious that the acceptance of gays is the future of civil rights in America. In cities all over the country, there are ample opportunities to see that two men or two women are just as qualified to be parents as a heterosexual couple. By seeing this truth in action, lots of people overcome their bigotry.
The suits who run Texas seem determined to maintain the state's status as a constitutional wasteland. I really believe that as time goes on, the country moves toward tolerance. Those who are screaming about the alleged horrors of homosexuality are looking just as bad as those who once argued that black people did not deserve the right to vote.
I'm going to refer to this article in today's blog. Thanks for the link.

As it turns out, although the bill was overwhelmingly approved by the Texas House of Representatives, it is now considered unlikely that it will become law. See today's blog entry, "Sharing the Island."
